My values as a voice teacher focus on developing an instrument that is functional, free, and expressive. When working to achieve these three pillars, students will have more control over their authentic voice. They will also work on freeing themselves from tensions and misgivings associated with singing. No two students are built the same, and as such, every singer in my studio will be presented a clear and well-suited path to vocal freedom. This is achieved through an environment that thrives on exploration and experimentation. Depending on the student’s specific needs and preferences, I may present exercises based in somatic body awareness, Italianate breath work, lessening vocal load, or any number of other pedagogically proven tools for vocal development and coordination. Singing anatomy will be focused on sequentially for the student, from respiration to phonation to resonance. These terms will be presented to the student in such a matter where they will be free to ask questions and any time. All singers will be encouraged to speak out if something does not feel ‘right’ for them.
Apart from matters of vocal coordination, students will be taught specific tools for the quick learning of music, in addition to matters of diction and truthful singing acting. While these are not the primary focus in lessons, they very often play a part in the equilibrium of the voice.
Students should feel emboldened to have a positive experience with the process of making music for its own sake, known by some musicologists as ‘musicing.’ This lifelong relationship with music will be fostered to develop at the student’s own rates and standards, while still providing a rigorous search for knowledge and further skill.
Daley Singing Studiopolicy
Expectation and Policy The Daley Singing Studio is one that promotes the highest standards of vocal production at any experience level. In order to do so, we must make clear a series of policies that will eliminate the added strain on this process. These policies are included below.
Lesson Times It is studio policy that the lesson times are either in 30-minute or 1-hour increments.
Payment Policy Payment is preferred to be provided on a weekly basis, payable by cash, check, Venmo, Cash App or PayPal at the start of the lesson. As with the lesson times, accommodations can be made. Receiving of tuition in advance can be on a or monthly trimester-based (August-Dec, Jan-May, May-August) payment schedule.
Absence and Make-Up Policy Any absence not cleared 24-hours in advance of the student’s lesson be considered unexcused, and the student will have to pay full price for the missed lesson. If a student cancels their lesson with 24-hours of advanced notice, and does not wish to forgo the lesson entirely, a make-up lesson may be scheduled. In this scenario, I will make clear my schedule to the student, and let them know of any openings within it.
Music Purchase Policy Included in the price of tuition is the providing of any sheet music and accompaniments for learning in lessons.
Visitor Policy At any given time prior to the student’s lesson, they may submit a visitor request to me via email. Chances are, I will welcome any small number of visitors to a student’s given lesson if they are approved via the proper channels.
Discrimination Policy The Daley Singing Studio is committed to a discrimination free environment. Regardless of race, class, sexuality, gender identity or creed, I will provide representative lessons to all of my students based on their own individual needs.
